Disco, do you still have the spring and cap for the spring? (ie, all the parts but the cable). If this is the case, stop by your local hardware store and get back into the picture frame area/fastener section. In that area you will find some braided cable and crimp pieces (looks like a figure 8 made out of semi thick metal). Pick this up (should run you about $8 CDN). The figure 8 pieces are designed to be crimped. In your case, you would cut the cable to the desired length (go long if in doubt), run it through the leaper and then feed it through the hood. Slide the spring into place with the cap and then finally the figure 8 crimp. Using a pair of channel locks or a heavy duty pair of pliers, crimp the figure 8 piece. That should lock the leaper into place. It would probably be easier if you remove the chrome piece that is left on the hood when you did this. You will also want to try and get a little bit of compression on the spring. That will help hold the leaper in place and not dropping its head. Use of a second person may be helpful. One person can crimp as the other person holds the cable such that it is forcing the crimp into the spring slightly.

yeah thermo i have all those parts, but the cap is damaged, in other words, when the jerk off pulled the ornament out, it made the hole a bit bigger, the one in the cap. Should i get a stronger cable and cap to prevent this from occuring again

Disco, I would say to get a knock out from an electrical box and then drill 2 small holes in it to replace the cap. That should also strengthen the connection. The problem with making this stronger is that if the person truely wants the kitty, you can end up with them damaging the hood. I know it sucks to loose the kitty, but what is the cost of fixing a hood from some stupid @#$%^&*? So, it is a balance you need to decide on. Make it so the kitty won't come off while risking the damage to the hood or loosing the kitty and having a good hood.

Disco, I'm thinking more like a 50,000 volt wire to the kitty. Let them know that when they touch the kitty, they are in for a shock of their life. But, that would be wrong. You are in a catch 22 spot with this and ironically, the car alarm is probably one of the better choices.

Disco, the price of security systems is all based on what options you want. They can run from $100 for a generic system that is nothing more than a noise maker when a door is opened or a decent hit to the car is received to a $1000 unit that comes with its own pager, has a perimeter sensor, kill feature, etc. I would see what the local shops have and see which options you deem necessary and which ones would be "nice to have's". Then you can narrow down what you will end up paying.

Disco, granted, if you know the stoner @#$%^&A!!!!, I say a good butt whipping will solve your leaper issue. But, I am not one to solve problems with violence. But, at the same time, I'm sure it will drive a point home. That or spray some Weed B Gone on his crop and see what happens. Then you can kindly explain to him that you feel the same way about having your leaper taken. So, cut it the @#$% out. Just saying......... There is always more than one way to win the war. It is merely finding the way to make your opponent want to say "I don't want to fight any more".

haha thermo i like you idea, well, this was my original plan, to get deer urine fomr a hunting store and pour it down his ac vents on his car, his car will stink like urine for life, even replacing the ac system will not fix the problem. But i realized, if i screw with his car, he will screw with mine, and in the end im losing, ( he's got a 81 honda). And he buys form a dealer. But thanx for the idea, my idea of winning a war is using the wepaon u have to only fire once, just gotta find out what it is???

Disco, may I recommend a stack of boards under the suspension such that it is holding the drive tires off of the ground by fractions of an inch. It will confuse the hell out of him. Imagine getting into your car, putting it in gear and hearing the engine rev, the speedo go up, but you don't move. I'm sure if he is tripping, it will make it all the better.

I'm sure he is wearing a coat, shift the focus from cars to something else. That may save the kitty too.

yeahh, hmmm, maybe i should pour the dear urine into his locker. And leave a tape recorded message from the saw movie. " Hello, you have wasted your whole life smoking pot and doing abbsoluty nothing positve, you have hurt many people in the process, now its your turn. I want to play a game, there s deadly liquid poured all over your articles, the small amount you have inhaled will kill you in 10 minutes, if you don't find the anitdote".

Option A, " the anitidote is in your left lung, are you willing to kill you lungs, as you have done smoking, to save yourself, or will you die like the rest of your body cells?": the choice is yours. tun tun tun.

Option B " the anitidote is inside the principles car, you must find a way in, you notify him and the container containg the anitidote will self destruct, alleviating all hope of survival, like you have done to many people" the choice is yours

and then get option b on video, send it to the principle and ta da, problem solved, weapon fired once. Hmmmm which is the better option

Meemo your pic is making me cry. I feel for you and your car. Only $4600US? In Canada that looks like $8,000 ($7300 US) damage. Your body guy treats you well.
