Default Force into limp home?

My 03 X-type 3.0 171,000 miles works ok in reverse and first, but won't upshift to other gears even when moving shifter by hand into 2, 3, or 4.
It is currently about 50 miles from home in a restaurant parking lot. They have been very nice about me leaving it there for a few days, but it has been more than a few days now. I really would like to get it home where I can work on it easier, but it wont go over 10 mph the way it is.
My question, is there an easy way to force the car into limp home so it will be in 4th instead of 1st? Maybe remove a fuse or unplug a connector? And will it be OK to drive 50 miles like this?

Thanks,
Jim

IMHO you have a serious transmission issue. I would not drive it all. 50 miles home could render the transmission unrepairable. Limp Home mode is to prevent damage to the engine and not for transmission or differential problems.

Do you have AAA? I don' remember how far they cover!? But it's save you some money for tow truck that far, otherwise you have to pay for whole thing to bring the car home.
