Default Friends new X-Type. Noise at 65+ MPH

My friend just bought a 2004 X-Type and absolutely loves it. Now he says that when he drives on the freeway going 65+ mph the steering wheel vibrates (nothing serious but still noticeable) and a distinct humming sound occurs.

He isn't sure what the deal is and if this is a normal occurrence. What do you guys think?

Roadhouse, from my experience, I would first try rotating the tires front to rear and rear to front. Does the car still have the vibration in the steering wheel? If no, one of the rear rims most likely has a slight bend to it and replacement of the rim is needed. If the steering wheel is still vibrating, have him get a 4 wheel alignment on the car and specifically look at the wear on the inside edge of all 4 tires. If you see abnormal wear on a tire (normally results in a nice tapering to the inside edge), that wheel has an issue and needs to be resolved. Even a small variance in the alignment can result in steering wheel shake.

If you need more help, let me know.
