Default front axle case oil

Hi Everyone,
I did a search for this and could not find what I needed. The car is a 2002 X Type sport 2.5 I changed the left side (drivers U.S. ) front axle yesterday. I lost about 40cc of oil during the change. can anyone point me to the drain and fill procedure for me to the front axle case?

Thanks
Ken

Are you referring to the AWD transfer case? If so, it takes 75w140 synthetic and the maximum amount it holds is 600 ml, of which only about 400 can be drained. The official procedure (believe it or not) is to tilt the car to drain and to tilt the opposite side to fill. This was supposed to be a "filled for life unit" so servicing wax not made easy. Many dealerships use a suction pump for removal of old fluid, and often there is almost no old fluid to drain!

Hi,
I have already changed the transfer case oil. This is under the front of the car where the front drive axles come out. I lost a small amount of oil when I changed the axle. I would like to drain it completely and refill with fresh oil.

There should't be any oil there, so I'm suspecting transmission fluid. You might have a weeping oil seal where the intermediate shaft goes into the transmission.

Could you tell if it was gear oil (transfer case) or ATF?

By axle, I assume you mean the shaft with the CV joints?

Hi,
Yes, the shaft with the CV joints. When I removed the drivers side axle about 50cc of oil drained out. It appears to be gear oil. I would like to drain and re fill this case.

It is difficult to determine what you are dealing with. If you have a manual transmission then use this procedure.
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ics-faq-63215/

If you have an automatic you will need to open the drain plug and allow the transmission to drain. You should get around 3.5 qts. Close up the drain and add 3.5 qts. No matter what you got out dd 3.5. The transmission holds 12 qts so for a fluid change you will need to do this 4 times while driving short intervals in between.

Do a forum search for the Automatic Transmission oil change procedure. You do not want to remove the wrong plug on the tranny. Result is NO REVERSE.
