A mechanic replaced right front axle on 07 Jag X Type. All axles put in keep slipping out and car cannot go into gear. Found out that there is damage to trasnfer case and the spring was broken which is why axles disengage. Original repair guy says it has to be damaged before he replaced axle. Vehicle drove fine and axle only replaced because mechanic said it was causing the clunking noise while driving. Clunking was still present when axle put in. Could the old axle stay in place if the spring was already damaged before repair? Also mechanic took whole shaft out and I was told it is only suppose to be a half shaft replacement so the trasnfer case is not damaged. Please help! Need to recover my losses!

 

He damaged it. Just do search (advanced) here and you can read how and what he damaged (the inner clip/seal). Many, many discussions on doing it wrong and correctly.

Main page, search pull down menu, advanced, input what you are looking for (i.e. cv, transfer case, obd code #, a/c hot, etc) change "all forums" to X type (only).
