Default Front Windscreen Half Clears

Hi,

When I turn on my electric front windscreen in the morning to clear, the passenger side clears almost instantly but the drivers side takes around five minutes. The split is an exact line down the middle of the windscreen. Do I need a new windscreen or is it something else? X-Type 3.0 Premium Sport.

Thanks,
Adam.

Do you have any cracks in your windscreen?

Check the electrical connections to the screen. I believe from reading around that they are prone to corrosion

The windscreen heater elements are two separate circuits - one for the driver's side and one for the passenger. Depending on model year, the fuses are either F13 and F15 or F14 and F15. all are 30 A and in the engine compartment fuse box. Both sides are powered through the same relay so as one side is working that should be OK.

The connectors that can corrode are at the base of the screen, one each side, under the plastic trim that runs across the base of the screen.

My windshield was replaced by a bodyshop years ago when the car was bombarded with glass pellets driving down the highway.

I believe that my vehicle should have or had a heated windshield. How can I tell if it was originally equipped?

I have the weather package, rain sensing wipers, etc.

Thanks!

Mine has the button, but this morning I tried it and no light came on. Maybe more be has had a new windshield in the past.
Eagerly watching this space.

If your X Type was fitted with a front screen heater, there will be a button for it marked F with a symbol like a screenwiper. It will be positioned between the rear screen heater button, marked R and the larger defrost button marked DEF.
