Default Front wishbone replacement

Hello Jagfans.....
I'm trying to get my '03 x type through it's MOT and struggling a wee bit.
I've managed to change the rear trailing arm bushes without too much trouble, but now it seems I need to replace the ball joints on the bottom wishbones.
The book of lies (Haynes) is saying that I'll need to drop the subframe a little and disconnect the steering column. Seems to be a bit of overkill, has anyone done this? The ball joints are fine aside from the rubbers which have lifted, I've used superglue to see if it'll get through the test, but ultimately they'll have to be changed at some point.

Wow,thanks Dell. That looks so much easier than I imagined!
Got myself an impact wrench to tackle the rear arms,so hopefully it won't be too much of a challenge........
