Question Fuel Computer Data Error

I got gas this morning and topped off the tank in my x-type ('04). On the way to work while driving on the highway about 15 miles from when I filled up I let off the gas to slow down as I was getting on the off ramp. As soon as a let off the gas the gas gauge which had been at full dropped to below empty and the display screen read Fuel Computer Data Error. I have since started and stop the car a couple times and the error is still there. I have read a couple posts pointing to the battery but its less than a year old. I'm going to try and disconnect the battery and see if that fixes it and for how long. Anyone have any suggestions on what to check for? I can't be guessing how much fuel I have in the car.

DZTT, I would be venturing to guess that you either have a power wire issue to the fuel senders or the ground for the fuel senders has come loose. Let me look at the diagrams and see what I can find in the way of possibilities. BUt, most likely, you are going to have to do a hand over hand of the wiring to look for damage to the wiring.

Anything you find would be greatly appreciated. After work yesterday and all day today (8 trips total) the fule gauge has gone back to working normally and error message has gone away. I didn't even get a chance to disconnect the battery to clear the error so hopefully it was just a small hick-up that cleared itself. But knowing what to look for if it comes back will be helpful.
