Default Fuel Pump Control Problem

G'day All.
I have been playing with the 2.1l X type for over a week now but I still can't get it to run normally.
If I connect the pump up to an external 12v supply it runs OK and draws 6amps so the pump is working.
The supply wire to the pump was open circuit so I ran a new one and now without the pump plugged in the relay operates and I get battery voltage at the pump plug when it is not in circuit.
As soon as I plug the pump in the relay drops out and of course no fuel pressure.
I have cleaned all the earths and ran a separate earth wire to the pump but to avail.
Are there any auto lecky's out there who know what the problem is?
Keep happy
JB

Just to update I eventually traced the problem to a high resistance in the relay base.
after a lot of fiddling I changed all the wiring over to one of the spares and now works fine.
Keep happy and healthy
Jim
