Gear box fault? Urgent
So I was taking out the original stereo and turn the key on to move to nuetral but did not start car so I could take trim off and now I have no radio in and vehicle is in park and is stating gearbox fault what do I do now?
Long story short: the electrical system on an X-Type is really a data network and when you turn the key the computer does a component "health-check". By simply removing the radio the check failed when a component the computer "knew" about didn't answer. Put the radio back in and then the engine management computer got right answers.
That's why replacing components in these cars is complex. The engine computer needs be trained about what is on the network.
