I had this problem in my 2006 XType 3.0 and it turned out there were a few wires under my battery shelf that had rubbed raw and were shorting out.- took awhile to trace and find but once I replaced it went away.

Default Jag xtype 2.0

I have an issue with gearbox fault. There was some pop spilled on my gear box after the gearbox fault came on dash board I took it to a local mechanic told them what happen because my car wouldn't start after this. So they cleaned it out and everything was supposedly fixed well i drove it home n later that night the same code came back on and it won't start again and now the dash is saying transmission fault and the car still won't start

When you turn key to position II (2) and leave it there, does the M.I.L. go off or stay lit after the dash cycles through the rest of the checks?

Default Inertia Switch Tripped

Unable to start 2004 Jaguar X-type this morning. Code on dash read Gearbox Fault. After a hour of reading and watching videos I came upon this suggestion. "On the passenger side kick panel you should see a small opening. Put your finger in there and you should feel a button type switch. Push down on it if it popped up. Try boosting the battery as it just may be weak." The button was popped and after I boosted the battery the fault was cleared. Simple solution for the majority of members on this forum. For anyone else overwhelmed with the idea of exchanging a gear box or locating the ECM/TCM hope this helps.
