Gearbox fault warning rectified
My 1st post here, so had to tell you people out there about my gearbox fault problem which has been rectified by me.
After recently purchasing my x-type estate (an older 08 version to replace my 2011 insignia heap of junk) I experienced as many have (GEARBOX FAULT) limp mode usual stuff as ive read.
The Jaguar dealer cleared the fault and couldn't get it to fail. The next day I had it again only when I used full throttle and again the following day.
I realised that if I drove the car carefully it wouldn't fault out. So this week I looked around the engine bay to see if I could find something wrong myself.
I noticed that the rubber grommet which is supposed to be around the oil dipstick was actually sitting on top of it ie the last service it had the fitter did not sit the engine cowl on correctly. Therefore had overfilled the sump with oil by the thickness of the grommet (approx. 20mm over the maximum) not good. I had our group garage drain the excess amount approx 1 litre out of the sump, cleared the error code relating to the gearbox and have since had no problems. Full throttle etc. Car is fine now.
All im saying is if you use a garage to service your car make sure the grommet is in its place around the dipstick tube (grommet should be sited in the plastic engine cowl).
All because some plank couldn't be bothered to do his job properly could have caused some serious damage. Hope this helps in some way. (don't fill over the max mark)
