getting to bonnet open switch

To remove the switch, I've found it's best to remove that heavy metal plate. Then you can get at the bottom of the switch and pinch the tangs that hold it in place.

If it had been any bigger, I might have smacked my elbow on it. Since my car is black and the rubber is black, I guess there was a camouflage effect which works great!
It turns out a wire from the harness had a nick in it right under the connector which eventually went open on the copper itself. I stripped it back and soldered and taped it. The switch itself is fine. But beware those little tangs. They are engineered for about 1.5 in-and-out cycles. One just sheared off when I went to flare it back into position.
So thank you GREEN MACHINE for the guidance. --Tom

The cable release handle in just inside the drivers door on the edge of the kick panel pull that. The there is a yellow handled lever back of the grille that you reach with your fingers from the bottom of the grille. Pull that handle towards you and lift the bonnet up.
