Global function

Ok, so after reading in the other post about people getting this programmed I had to try it.
It works fine if I hold the key in the door, but it does not work via the remote by holding it down for 3 seconds on the second lock function doesn't work. Plus when you do use the door key you have to hold it until everything is closed. Is this how it's suppose to work?

When using the remote it may depend on if you have it set to single stage or two stage locking! In single stage it only takes one press to unlock everything. So if you press it again it probably doesnt compute.

It is in two stage, the first unlock only does the driver door, second unlock does the rest. For locking single lock, locks all doors and arms the alarm but doesn't sound the horn, second lock sounds the horn to let you know it's locked and armed.

Yes, but I thought that having all of the windows closing by holding the key meant that it was "programmed" is that not correct?
I see this being usefull in the summertime as long as it works from the remote and I don't have to hold the key.

I agree that the global close function would be great if it worked with the remote. If this is indeed how it is supposed to work, let me know, and I will get mine programmed. Mine only works with the key in the door, which is kind of useless. If it starts raining, it would be nice to sit in the building and global close the windows and sunroof.
yep, it is a feature that has to be programmed. i had to go to 2 dealers to get mine done - first one said it was impossible on an 04. funny thing is, when i drove with my dad to get his 03 about a month ago it was not turned on. we asked that it would be, and the service manager told me that is not an option on any jaguar. so we took a little stroll out to mine, i showed him that it does exist, and 10 mins later my fathers was working. no idea how they did it as they drove the car away into a service bay to do it.

Ok so from what I've read here it sounds like the key in the door is standard on ALL.
The "Global" function is programmed into the remote somehow, so I will have them do this next time I take it in.
Which will be soon because this morning my door locks didn't work the way they normally do. I usually hit the lock button twice to hear the horn just so that I know it's locked I did that this morning and it didn't sound the horn. Then the remote didn't work to unlock the doors but did release the trunk then it did lock the doors and rearm the car alarm, but still didn't sound the horn. So I'll have them take a look at that and hopefully get the "Global" function enabled at the same time.

turning the key in the door to close the windows is not part of the global close feature. that is enabled on all X's i beleive. well, it was on the 3 X's that are now in my family, but none came with the key fob closing portion, they all had to be 'programmed' by a dealer.
didn't cost me anything at my local dealer nor anything when we picked up my dad's in the next state. any reputable dealer should do it for free. just ask for it the next time you go in for a service.

So, what exactly does global close mean? Does it work with the remote? if so, does it only close windows, or does it close sunroof too? Does it also have a global OPEN function? I would like to know if this is indeed something that can be done to a 2003.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
global close, when enabled, will close open windows when you hold down the lock button for a few seconds on your key fob. i do not know if it closes the sunroof as well, but i can find out tomorrow. it does not open anything, and it can be done on a 2003.

Wow, my 2003 works just as you said. I hold the door lock down on my remote, the doors lock. I then retain pressure on the lock button and the windows AND sunroof close.
SWEET!!!!
Thanks
Boy these forums are great. I never knew my Jag had that option!!!
