Default Growling noise from steering XType 51 plate

Started getting a growling noise from left side when steering was on full lock.
This then spread to the right side about three weeks later, and has now become more regular even when steering has only been moved slightly. Fluid is at correct height and car has no signs of leaks from steering system. Steering is also still working fine and feels light as if working normal. This is not connected to the noise that sometimes emits from steering wheel which I fix with additive. I am at a loss so any help would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

companyboy, odds are if you apply a little bit of lube to the bearing for the steering shaft where it goes through the firewall, you will find that the noise will go away. When this bearing gets dry, it will make some noise similar to what you are most likely hearing.
