Question Halogen or HID?

I recently emailed an LED headlamp distributor about getting LEDs fitted to my 2009 Jag XType sport, 2.1.
They came back to me asking whether I had factory halogen or factory HID? I am not sure - what did the factory fit my model with when it came out - halogens or HIDs? I think due to the dull yellowness of my lights is that they're halogens but that is just a guess - can anyone confirm what type were fitted to my model from the factory?

Clackavosticus, to answer your question, you simply need to open up the driver's door. If you look near the door hinge, do you see a silver/white sticker that says something to the effect of "This Vehicle is equipped with High Intensity Discharge ......" If you don't see a sticker, then odds are you have halogen headlights. The other check that you can do is to simply park the car in front of a wall when it is dark. Do you see the lights come on and go immediately bright and remain there or do you see them get really bright, then dim down and over say 10 seconds or so, they come back up in brightness? If they go bright and stay there, you have halogen headlights. If the headlights flash bright, dim down and then come back over time, then you have HID.

The last definitive thing you can do is remove the cover off of the back of the headlight cover. If you look in there, do you see where the wires attach to the bulb or do you see a blg, black box in the way. If you see wires, you have halogen bulbs. If you have a big, black box in the way, you have HIDs.

Look at the light switch.

If you have Halogens, just below the switch it will also have a small four position headlamp beam height selection control.

If you have HIDs ( which of course are self leveling) this control is not present

henry k, my understanding is that in the US spec cars, you get the self-leveling headlights when you get the HID headlights and you get fixed headlights if you get halogen lights. There is not cross-over option where you get a little bit of both worlds. I know places like England has very specific rules as to how the headlights must point under all conditions. Where, here in the US, the headlights must point at a slight angle down when the car is sitting level (ie, no one in the car). So, what can happen is if you load up the car to its limits, the back end of the car will drop and this can potentially cause the headlights to shine straight ahead in this case, potentially leading to a hazzard of blinding oncoming drivers. But, I find this to be a very limited case here in the US.
