hand brake not holding

hand brake not holding
me again, problems with the parking brake on my 02 xtype. The brakes seem to be fine but when i pull the hand brake it does not seem to do any thing which is a big pain in the rear, considering it has a 2.5L, 5spd manual, i end up having to shut the car off in gear so it dont roll away. I did try to adjust the tensioner deal underneath, but that did nothing, still rolls away, so any suggestions would be great.

dynajag, I am betting that when you pull on the e-brake lever, it is really easy to pull up and it goes all the way up. If this is the case, odds are, you are suffering from stuck e-brake levers on both rear calipers and you simply have worn the rear pads to the point that they are not able to grip on to the rotors any more. If you need me to go into more detail about this, let me know. There are 2 fixes for this. The easier method will cost you more, but is also a quicker fix.

@Thermo ,
I have the same problem but it's a mechanical system (no electronics)
Would like to know more if possible.
We already checked the rear calipers and the piston is twisted out to just lightly touch the discs upon reassembly.
The calipers work smoothly and the pistons are clean.
Is there a way to check the hand brake mechanics in the calliper?
Please note that there's a lot of slack in the single cable going to the hand lever in the cockpit.
How could this slack be eliminated

Ely Drys, the best advice that I can tell you is to pull off both rear wheels and note where the e-brake levers normally sit (should be all the way towards the rear bumper). Now, engage the e-brake. You should notice that one will have moved just a little bit and the other will be practically pointing to the front bumper. The one pointing to the front bumper is your problem child. If both have moved just a little bit, then a cable adjustment is what you need. But, unless a cable has snapped or you recently replaced a cable, this should be not needed.
