Default Hanging plastic tube from right rear part of the car

So, I had a check engine light on for some time. I got it checked and there is a minor leak in the system. There is a tube hanging on the rear end. I can't see from where it is coming but it is around the mud guard of the rear right tyre. Is this causing the check engine light?
I have a 2002 xtype jaguar.

The Check Engine Light (aka CEL) has to do with the emissions, both with the engine and also the fuel system. Whenever that light comes on you should use an OBD (On Board Diagnostic) scanner to read the code(s) that triggered it, and write them down. Post them on the forum and you'll get lots of help.

Any number of your local auto parts stores will perform the scan for you at no cost. There are lots of scan tools on the market but you don't have to spend a lot of money to have one of your own, say about $20-30. It's a very nice addition to a DIYer's tool box. Spend a little more and you can get one that hooks up to a mobile device app via Bluetooth.

Bears repeating: You've got to write down the code(s). Omit that and you're chasing your tail.

The first thing I would think of would be that this is a fuel tank/ fuel filler vent hose that has come adrift. There really is nothing else in that part of the car to account for it - and yes, that could account for the check light.

It is probably a P0442 code "EVAP Control System Leak Detected Small Leak"

I am not sure about that tube though. The canister purge valve hose is back there somewhere I think.

Try to trace it to see where it go? Post the picture so we can tell what it is.

I too have that bit of small bore pipe sticking down behind the drivers side rear wheel on my diesel. Car runs great. I just assumed it was a vent of some sorts.

It is possibly the drain line coming from the fill cap area beneath thee fuel door. A quick check with a water hose will reveal if it is the drain.

Yep got it in one. Just tried it. Drain pipe from fuel filler recess. Don't know if it's to drain spilt fuel or water which may get in there. Doesn't really matter which.

I'm guessing that the tube may be a red herring and you actually just need a new gas cap.

I am often wrong, however.

I think it is generally for fuel overflow to keep it off the paint work, but it will still drain any water from accumulating.

It does have a P0442 code. Thanks for the reply guys, I am new and quite overwhelmed.
I got a new gas cap when the car passed echeck, but it could be a improper fit that is causing the error.

The small tube hanging just left of the wheel is what i am talking about about.it is the rear passenger side.

The code has been consistent despite some fuel cycle( fuel cap is not loose). I am having normal economy though 19mpg.

Thanks for the help everyone

The tube goes in the plastic mud guard and i could trace it without lifting the car.
