Default harsh gear shift after rebuild

hi all just got my jag back on the road after repairing my tranny and all seems good but for harsh gear shifting between 1st&2nd and 3rd&4th no engine fault light and doesn't do it all the time when i put code reader in i get engine fault code of p1603 which is tcm eprom it says to do a transmission drive cycle which is to drive in second at 40mph for 5 seconds and then in all the other gears at the same speed till in drive and 50-80mph for 1mile has anyone done this and can it be done with the car jacked up as don't want to trash my gearbox
