I have my 2003 X-type 2.5 going in for inspection in a few days because the suspension makes harsh banging sounds when i hit even the smallest of bumps or road changes. The noise focuses on the front of the car and sometimes is harshest on the right front tire. I also wonder if it has to do with the vibration of the front tires. I got them balanced recently but the dealership didn't do a very good job, and they seem to have gotton worse. Has anyone had this problem? And has anyone ever tried the air ride suspension on an x-type? Im wondering if it would make a significant difference in ride noise and quality. Thanks for your help

 

A common problem. There are a number of threads on this topic. Most likely you have swaybar bushings that are toast.

 

Well when it is in for inspection they will check the front end and let you know if the bushings are bad.. With the noise you are describing I would say that it is the front bushings that are bad and causing all the issues.

As for an air ride suspension on your X.. I think its a lot of money that really doesnt need to be spent. If you want a better ride then upgrade to better struts like Bilisten or KYB for a firmer ride. You could also go onto Mina Gallery and get the full suspension kit for your X.

 

Among other things that is something close to what mine is doing. Mine is making a thumping noise that seems to be coming from the front driver side but is on and of it reminds me or makes me think that there is a knot on the tire but it doesnt do it all the time and most of the time it does it when I am coasting but it gets pretty loud. I was thinking maybe a ball joint I am going to be working on it this even so any help on what to look for would be great. I have larned there are a lot of very knowledgeable peopl on this site and thats the reason I have been posting so many questions so anybody have any idea? Thanks again for all your help
