Yesterday I noticed that I can no longer turn on my head unit (from what I can tell it's the standard one with a single CD slot, and takes up 2 DIN units - top half with a clock, bottom half is audio). I'm a new owner so not familiar with the specific terminology.

It still gets backlit when I activate the sidelights, and the climate control unit above it still works normally, but there's no response from the power button, not even the beep. The last time I was using it it worked fine, and I haven't done anything unusual.

Is there any way to determine what's going wrong with it and how I get it working again? Am I best to just buy a new head unit from ebay for £50, or is it likely to be a damaged wire that can be fixed?
