jagmag, welcome to the forums. I think you will find that we know a lot around these parts. First off, do the other lights in the headlight housing work? If no, then odds are you have somehow broken the ground wire. Since you talk about the socket melting, you have the halogen bulbs. I would try removing the headlight bulb and using a multimeter, seeing if you have 12VDC on the wiring at the plug. Measure each terminal to chassis ground. One will have 12 VDC, the other will have 0 VDC. The terminal with 0VDC you can do a resistance check to chassis ground and it should be under 5 ohms. If you don't get 12 VDC, then check the applicable fuse (F29 for the drivers side, F30 for the passenger side). If the fuse is good and the other headlight comes on, then you have a wiring problem most likely inside the headlight housing. You can remove the plug for the headlight assembly and do a voltage check of the orange/yellow wire (drivers side) or the green/white wire (passenger side). If you don't get 12 VDC there, then the problem is the wiring harness inside the engine bay. If you have 12 VDC there, then that confirms your problem is inside the headlight housing. If you have more than 5 ohms on the ground wire, then your problem lies inside the headlight housing.
