can i convert my headlights to zenons with the self leveling and wash system or would it cost to much

 

It would be very pricy
You would need a new bumper with cut outs for the washer system,xenon headlights,the headlamp washer motor,cover for bumper,the 2 sensors on the sill that determine the cars incline,wiring,modules,repainting of bumper and covers,piping and jets and wiring for the wash system, and maybe a new washer bottle if the one for the headlamp jets is different from the one without (this could just be a bunged for non wash if its the same bottle).
Then it would need configuring at a dealer.Im not sure I have missed something out?
Much cheaper to buy a HID kit for $60 or whatever they cost although you wouldnt get the self levelling.Many on this forum have fitted the kits and are happy with the results

 

Man you DO not want the headlamp washer, wel while your in the cold areas anyways, ice tends to build up/ freeze over them, and since you cannot deactivite them they break costing you close to 200 bucks once replaced and done with. Another issue, if you bumper gets disalinged somehow, like a small collision, the washer covers wil eventaully snap and break. And sometimes the one side won't work. I would be happy to donate all my systems for a regualr bumper but thats not viable. It would be cheaper to ethier, just get the hid kit, or trade the car in for one that has all the features. I knw the senond option doesn't seem logical.

 

i just wanted better brighter lights , if i fit the hid conversion i have to fit all the self leveling and washin bits to be legal , but if its goin to be a pain and exspensive i will have to leave them as they are

 

Well, i am still planning on fitting ahid kit, you have to remerb that the light must be focused, our cars do have adjusters for this, the non-self leveling cars have screws that let you adjust the angle. And the remcommeded temeprature is 6000k for all around light, and the highest you should go, im going wit the 8000k, becuase i like the blue ting to it. We got alot of cars in our areas without projectors, the police don't care if they have hids or not.

 

In the UK a car over 3 years old has to have an M.O.T. test to be legally allowed on the roads...its a kind of bumper-bumper health check with emissions/tyres/brakes/rust near critical areas/steering/suspension etc etc etc
Part of the test is the headlight aim/beam
I dont know of anyone (and I know a few) over here who have fitted the HID kits and failed the MOT.

 

yeah, they should have a test for that over here, you drive downt he road, and it loks like a sun is coming towards you, i hate people who think you an just thorw a hid kit in, with the reflecter housing, its dangerous. Our cars have projectors so were good there.

 

I'm thinking of doing the HID conversion as well.. Any recommendations as to which kit to get? There are a bazillion of them and the price is so cheap on some I'm worried that they're not good quality wise.

 

I dont know about the uk, but washer are not fitted to hids as a requirement very few here have washers, hid or not

 

I fitted oem hids headlights on my car; eventhough I got the headlights at eBay, they were kind of pricey, and of course after many failed bids. They were very easy to install ; only two wires to mess with. I opened them up and painted the chrome shroud to match the car's color, reinforced the plastic adjusters, and took off the autolever motors and used the plastic ones from the old non-hid headlights. I love them! ; I'm using 5000k bulbs, wich is a nice real white light IMO.

 

Factory fit HID lights must have headlight washers here in the UK.

 

where can i find factory HID kits for my 04 X-Type? (dealer?) or the best aftermarket HID kits here in the states?

any help would be greatly appreciated
