Smile headliner

The headliner on my 03 is working it way off the ceiling of the car. In the rear against where it meets the top of the rear window. I took it to a upholstery shop and they told me that it can't be reglued as the re-glue won't hold. I re-glued the headliner myself last year in the winter when the part the covers the moonroof came down and its been OK. The headliner is in fine shape no tears clean etc. The shop wants $250 for a new liner, that's just material and labor. I can't understand why a good headliner glue won't hold on the old headliner.

Anyone had a headliner problem and what did you do about it.

Adam, I have had the headliner come off where you are talking about. I used some newspaper to cover up the rear window (held in place by masking tape) and then I peeled the headliner back a little more to get good access. From there, I used some 3M Upholstery spray glue. Sprayed both the headliner and the base and then laid it back down. Been good for 3 years now. Just have to do the other side now.

I have the same problem. Mine is coming down in the back and I was just planning to try an upholstery glue. If it doesn't work it still needs to be replaced anyway. Might as well try it. Mine is pinned up right now until I can get to it.

I found some headliner glue in a spray can, supposed to be made just for this type of job. However, the seller told me not to be surprised if it does not hold, or when you lay the headliner back it is not perfectly smooth. He quoted me a price of $200 for a new headliner with a year warranty.
