Default Heated seats too hot!

Any one think the seats get too hot on their X type? I can have mine on Low for a maximum of 30-40 secs before I have to switch them off as it makes the back of my thighs prickle. If I had them on Full I am sure I could fry a breakfast on them! I have two Saabs and with those I can easily drive for 15 min with them on giving a lovely even warmth that never gets uncomfortable.
Any clever guys know how I could reduce the effect even more so I can use them more in the -12C winters we get here, alternatively I could try to remove the leather cover and place some insulation under there.

Norcat, you may want to play with the heated seat function and simply turn it on without sitting in the seat. You may find that it is getting really hot in just one spot, not everywhere. Right before the heating element fails, it will develop hot spots. That is where the metal film is cracking and is building up additional resistance (hence the added heat).. To fix this, you can pull the cover off of the seat, look for the darker spots on the fabric holding the heating element. You can then rip a little hole in the fabric and see the metal ribbon. Should be fairly easy to see the crack in the ribbon. You can then take a piece of say 16 gauge solid wire and cut a 2" piece (5 cm) and solder the wire over the crack. This will even out the heating of the seat and prevent from having to replace the heating element.

Different vehicle but starting just before 5 minutes it explains fixing a broken wire. Checking the resistance should be helpful in your case.

If the pad is indeed shot, you could buy something like this to replace the pad =
