Last year I had my AC condenser unit replaced in my 02 X-type. Now that the weather's getting colder, I'm using the heater more.
The issue I have is it takes 10 to 15 minutes before the warm air comes out. I also noticed that sometimes it will take longer but when I get to the highway it warms up quickly. sometimes hit & miss.
Any thoughts or idea why?

Last winter, I had a very, very slow coolant leak at the water pump. Once the coolant dropped to a certain level, my heater would blow cold air while idling like at a red light. As soon as I was in motion, the heater would blow hot air fine. Once the leak was fixed and my coolant level full, no more problems. So check your coolant level, could be that simple. Hope this helps.

 

When my coolant tank went leaky on me, the first symptom i noticed was no/intermittent heat. First place to check is the coolant expansion tank on the top right side of the engine bay - there's a hose comming out at the bottom, and the plastioc nipple that small hose connects to tends to crack.

 

Sure enough, coolant is leaking. I'll have my mechanic fix it this week. I think that should solve it...I'll let you guys know if it's other than that. Thanks.
