So i have an XFR center section of exhaust that i plan on playing around with........H pipe or maybe straight twins......decided to cut open the rear resonator to see whats inside........suprised and interested!!!! Looks like some kind of opposing trumpet sytem that blows into the chamber!!!!

question is.......what exactly does it achieve???!!!

Great info!

Any chance you can cut open the front muffler too?

The front muffler is simply a glass packed silencer with perforated exhaust tubes in it.......i found out today after a bit of research that this resonator is in place to cancel drone like sound waves by using resonator chambers there is no mixing of exhaust gas across the banks........this thing is gonna go as its sure to disturb exhaust flow and rob performance..........the welder and some stainless tubing are coming out!!!

All I have is x-pipe, 2.5" tubing and uncorked mufflers past the cats. And the volume is very subtle. Jag service manager drove mine and didn't even realize it had any exhaust mods.

Damien,
Is the front muffler a single box on the inside (so the exhaust gasses from the two inlet pipes mix) or does it contain two separate pipes inside like the resonator (so no mixing)?

The first small silencer box will mix the banks.......although only very slightly as its packed with silencer wool. So its basically two perforated tubes in one box with no divide between them.......

I have basically the same setup as Kyanite except with the Mina axleback...and you can definitely tell it has exhaust mods
