Default Help! Getting Gearbox Fault after stereo replacement

Hi. I have an 02 X-Type, completely base and decided to replace the crotchety stock stereo with a double din screen so I can install a backup camera.

Put the car in drive with the parking brake on to pull the console. Put it back in park and pulled the negative terminal on the battery. Spliced the wires for the new harness. Reconnected the terminal and tested it, everything was ok. Put it to drive to test fit, needed to shave a little off the acc vent knuckle plastic so it would fit flush. Park, disconnected battery, disconnected console wires to pull it free. Fixed the duct problem.

Reconnected battery. Went to put it in drive to put the unit back in. Gearbox is locked. Dash display says gearbox fault.

Can't figure out what may have changed between the last time I changed gears, no wire was touched. Maybe a fuse somewhere? All other electrical systems are working fine.

Am going to pick up a diagnostic plug tomorrow to find the codes. Have no idea what might have happened. Thanks in advance for any help or ideas!

"Gearbox locked"? Does that mean you cannot shift the selector? Automatic (had to ASSUME as you didn't say & have no signature info)? Is the "P" lit? Do you have brake lights?

Figured it out after reading through some other threads. Sorry forgot to mention it is an automatic and the selector wouldn't move out of P.

I hadn't reconnected the climate control plugs because I was checking to see if the new unit fit before I plugged everything back up. That was it. For some reason, the climate control being unplugged disables the gearbox and the ignition. Everything else seemed normal but those were locked out. After plugging them back in, everything went back to normal.

Thanks for replying. Thankfully it was something simple. Hopefully this will help someone else who messes up and is as confused as I was.
