I have a 2002 x type and cant seem to get my trunk open. i cant hear anything click when i press the button on the trunk or the key fob, i was wondering what i should do to get it open. i cant access it through the seats either cause the seats unlatch from the trunk.... and ive also heard it doesnt have a trunk emergency release lever.

 

My 2003 x-type does have an emergency release lever!!!!
In case anyone were to be locked in it... Just showed my 4yr old son this emergency fob the other day.... when he wanted to play in the trunk. It sits in the hood, just forward of the lock.
Not sure how you could get past the latch on the seats.... but if you did, then indeed there is a latch

 

Have you tried applying down pressure on the trunk lid as you press the release button. Maybe the latch is just sticking and not really moving. Just a thought.
