Default Help with MAF sensor install please

I’m gonna install a new MAF sensor and have a question. Should I disconnect the battery before doing the install ? I’ve read about the cpu reset by disconnecting the 2 battery terminals then touching them together for a few minutes. I’m a little afraid of doing that. Is there any other option ? Or is disconnecting the battery not really necessary ? Please let me know thx.

NYCJAG, I have replaced tons of MAF sensors and never disconnected the battery. So, do not worry about it. Granted, I would say to disconnect the battery to let the computer learn the new sensor. As for touching the two terminals together, BAH!!!!!! It is a way to discharge everything in the car to get it all discharged. Or, you can simply let it sit for a few minutes and the internal circuitry to drain any remaining voltage left in the capacitors. That is a lot easier on the electronics than shorting the two main wires together.

Thx Thermo. So just remove the negative battery terminal and let it sit for half hour ? Or less time ? Thx again
