Default help needed about x400 engine

hello guys
i own x400 2.5 lit. 2002 4dr saloon automatic transmission.
in fact need to replace the engine which is the XB one (2.5), it has a bad sound of crank.
anyway, been looking for used enging to fit, and as its quite hard to find one overhere, found only the YB engine, 2.0 lit. though with very good condition.

my Q is: if i take it, would be able to make a good one engine from both engines, worn crank XB and very good YC? i mean are both share the same block, sensors, heads, timing belts, ect.... ???!!!!!
once again, couldnt find XB or only find YB. so would it be ok??
what about to go for the WB (3.0 lit.) will it swap with no proble?

cheers

Scooby, you would have a better chance with the 3.0L engine than a 2.0L engine. I know for a fact that the 2.5L and 3.0L engines share the same block. So, everything will bolt right up and the swap will be pretty straight forward. With the 2.0L engine, I don't think it is going to be all that simple. If I remember right, the 2.0L engine is an I4 engine where the 2.5L and 3.0L engines are V6's. So, at a minimum you would have to get a new ECU and new wiring harness to make the 2.0L engine work. For that cost, you might as well rebuild your 2.5L engine and save yourself some heartache with the potential wiring issues.

Some ancillary parts will NOT interchange...in particular, the throttle body assembly and the ECU. One would probably need a complete 2.0 engine and access to the donar car for the ECU and other odd bits. My 'long distance' armchair opinion is that an upgrade to a 3.0 engine would be much less painless...plug in and go. Cheers, Andy

Blue, as I recall, doing a 2.5L to 3.0L swap should be nothing more than swapping the motors and switching out the ECU so you have the 3.0L programming in it. OTher than that, they should both use all the same sensors and wiring harnesses.

hi, everything will swap over, that includes the gearbox and the same wiring harness, all you need to change is the ecu for the 3.0 one. Job done, and an extra 35 odd horse...
