Help required - Rear windows conversion
Hi all
i own a 2003 3.0 sport and once again my kids have left the windows in the back slightly open again and soaked the car when cleaning
is there anyway to retro fit electric opening windows in the back if the car was built with manual winder
if it is possible what do i need to buy and how easy is it to complete ???
thanks

Carl, as for converting over to electric windows, you will obviously need the power window mechanism for inside of the door. That will have a motor and a pull cable assembly for raising/lowering the window. After that, you will need the wiring harness to run from the driver's door to the rear doors. The "hard" part of this whole project will be sliding the wires through the door boots. Not impossible, but unless you have done this before, be a very patient man. The trick that I normally use is getting a very long (18" or so) screw driver and some tape. Then what you can do is tape the wire you want to run through the boot to the end of the screw driver and then use the screw driver to guide the wire through the boot. Massaging the outside of the boot as you are pushing on the screw driver helps too. Then, once you get the screw driver out the other side of the boot, you can undo the tape and pull the wire the rest of the way through the boot. You can also try taking the boot out of the sheet metal and go at it that way. Sometimes this makes it easier, some times it just makes things worse.
If you want an electrical diagram of what the power to the windows looks like, let me know. I can forward you an image.

Buck, good point. I keep on forgetting the "different" meanings that we have around here. Where I mention boot, I am talking the little rubber piece that is connecting two body panels together. As mentioned above, the boot is actually the little rubber piece that runs between the body of the car and the door where all the wires are hidden inside of.
