Can a Locksmith Reprogram My Key or Dealer?
I can't start my new 2002 X Type. I have determined it is the security system lock-out. The fuel pump doesn't whine, and, there is no cranking from the starter. I was going to tow it to the dealer, 80 miles, but, why can't someone come and start it at home, like an auto locksmith? I live in central Pennsylvania. Can this be done?

gthawk1, can a locksmith do this job. YES. The problem that you are going to find is that in order for them to do it, they need a special program to get into the car's PATS system. There are not enough Jags that they are going to work on to make up for the cost of the program. So, most locksmiths are going to simply tell you that they don't have the ability and that you need to consult the dealership. You can call around and maybe someone has the special computer. But, don't be surprised when you are told no.

I was going to say sure, you just need to find one. I got my lead from of all people a Jaguar parts manager. He gave me a number, and I found a used actual Jaguar transmitter, on Ebay. You need to read very carefully, because most of the items are either empty cases, or Chinese stuff, that even the Chinese can't program. The locksmith had the key blank, and was able to code the transmitter, with his equipment. He says Jaguar changes some code about every 30 seconds, so yes you do need special equipment. You also need to have your car, when you go to get your key and code. I got my key and transmitter cut and coded for $200 plus the price of what I bought from Ebay.....Be cool.....Mike
