I am fitting a hid kid this week on my 2010 2.2 x type diesel estate. It seems according to the handbook if you have hid you have a 10 amp fuses or ordinary bulbs a 7amp fuse.

question as all x types have the projector type dip headlights lens, is the wiring harness the same regardless what bulb you have just the fuse is rated different?

I would be surprised if harness is the same, Halogen bulbs usually have a connector which fits on the bulb end like 3 spade connectors in 1 with 1 at 12 oclock the other 2 at 9 and 3 oclock.

HID bulbs like D2S have an entirely different base, unless they are aftermarket which can be bought to match the original halogen bulb type.

As for the fuse it probably has 10 amp for HID because of start up current surge although they are rated 35w as opposed to 55w for halogens.

 

stupots, the factory HID headlight housings have dual ground wires (pins 9 and 10 as I recall) where the halogen headlight housings have a single ground wire (pin 9). Keep in mind that when an HID bulb starts, each bulb pulls about 20 amps (40 amps total). This is why the HID headlight housings have dual ground wires.

As for mounting an aftermarket HID system into your car, the factory wiring between the battery and the headlight housing is ok, but you should ground the HID ballast to the frame of the car to prevent any issues with the headlight ground wire.
