Angry P0430 Help

Hello,

I need your help. I purchased a 2002 X-TYPE v3.0 many years ago for my mom and it is up for (Ontario) emissions testing due by the end of August. The car has a check engine light and it is reporting P0430 catalyst below efficiency bank 2. The local Jag dealer quoted $1800 to fix the issue by replacing the cat. What a rip off!

My mother cannot afford a $1800 repair but she needs to pass the emission test. How do I get rid of the code so that I can pass the emission test? Should I get O2 simulators?

Lastly, is this an O2 issue or cat issue or something else?

Any help is appreciated with this issue. Thank you in advance.

Only fix for cat efficiency codes is replacement of the effected cat..

But before you go out on limb..check these possibilities first.

  • An oxygen sensor is not reading (functioning) properly
  • There is an exhaust leak

if you are somewhat handy. You ca buy one off ebay. There is a guy who makes them for 250 to 300 US. They are a perfect match to OME and a fraction of the cost.. If you are looking to get one. PM me and I will find the guys name.

Thanks and Good Luck!
The Dr!

You have to remove your O2 sensor. It's much easier with the correct socket which you can buy at a reasonable price. Screw in the spacer, then screw in your sensor. Done! These have worked for me. I replaced an O2 sensor and the CEL came back on after about 50 miles. Then I put a spacer on later and CEL never came back on. That was about 2500 miles ago.

Generally you check the cat and find it's bad so replace it. If it's OK then suspect the O2 sensor(s). Etc. See what Jaguar say about the code!! (I know, so old-fashioned to read the documentation.)

No, generally you check your O2 sensor first. http://www.jaghelp.com/2014/04/p0420...ar-x-type.html

As I said - read the Jaguar documentation!

It has more about O2 sensor problems than anything else...
