high beam switch
I have a 2002 x type . I pulled the switch on the left side of the steering wheel to turn on my high beams. I heard a pop when I pulled back on the switch. now the high beam lights are on all thetime and will not turn off. how do I fix it
You turn one position to the right for low beams (dipped), one more position right for high beams, PULL switch one click at either position 1 or 2 for FRONT fog lights, PULL one more position in either 1 or 2 to turn on REAR fog lights.
Note this video of removal, the switch does not have the A/B, reset, etc. buttons on the bottom, but removes the same.

On my 2002 the switch operates turning on the lights but the multi-stalk operates the high beams. You have most likely broken the stalk mechanism and that is why the high beams won't shut off.
As a work around until the stalk can be replaced you can remove fuses 85 and 86 in the passenger area fuse box. This will kill power to the high beams. It is located just above your left knee when seated behind the wheel. If you remove the cubby box on the dash it will be easy to access. The fuse numbers are embossed on the plastic holder.

Ah, thus, "pulled the switch on the left side of the steering wheel to turn on my high beams" makes sense now. Not really a switch it's a stalk, lol. C2S5931
Btw, I wish my 2006 had that cubby (coin, nails, screws, etc) box that older ones have. It would save me the circus contortionist things I've done trying to see and access that damn god awful fuse box.

I kept blowing the right side taillight fuse and went thru those contortions myself until one time I bumped the cubby and it fell out. Dang, the light bulb came on, funny though after that fuses change and the light repair I have never had to remove it again.
Ah, once again the difference between Left-Hand Drive and Right-Hand Drive. My car (in Australia) is Right-Hand Drive and the fuse box is still on the left-hand side, but in the back of the glove compartment, which is easy to access, and has the compartment light to illuminate it. British built of course.

I always seems to me that my UK version was built as a LHD and adapter during production to RHD.
The brake servo is not in the normal position in front of of the pedal.
A couple of Jaguar convenience featues...
My passenger gets a nice rest for his her left foot but I get nothing
The bonnet / hood release lever is by the passengers ankle.
Plus the regular gripe of mine. Lets be lazy and align indicator stalks with LHD Europe and have the indicators on the wrong side.

Yes, the footrest thing. I too wonder why there is no left footrest for the driver. The bonnet release lever caught me out too, but I learnt long ago that this is common on many European cars which have the lever - or button - in the glovebox. The windscreen wiper stalk and 'blinker' stalk being reversed is maybe a European think too. I know BMWs and Peugeots are like this. I may not go around too many corners, but I have the cleanest windscreen in the country.
