Default high engine tempeture..

hey guys.. this happend yesterday, when i turned my car off something was still running under the hood. and i didnt know what the problem was and it went off after 3mins.. and today it happend again and i had red light with high engine temp sign.. my buddy told me couple things and i checked the coolant tank and there was nothing in there.. do i suppose to put some type of oil or just water??? if someone could help that would be great!!!

HK, before adding more coolant, check the nipple on the bottom of the tank up near the battery. This is known to crack and allow a significant amount of coolant to leak out, leading to an overheating condition. You can tug gently on the nipple to see if it is cracked. For the moment, as long as you are not in freezing conditions, you can add just straight water. But, if you are up in MD now, may want to get a bottle or two of the 50/50 mix coolant to keep handy till you can figure out where the leak is.
