Hissing Jag

Driving along at 30mph the engine made a sudden hissing noise a bit like pressure release. Then the engine stuttered but kept on going. What is the problem.

X Type estate SE diesel 2008 2.0 ltr. 130,000, full service history.

The mechanic thinks it's a turbo hose, when confirmed l'll report back.
