how can i tell if my TC seal is damaged?
Hi i replaced my oilpan (dont recomment anyone attempt this unless theyre experienced mechanics) anyway come to find that i removed the halfshaft and might have damaged the internal seal. What will happen if its damaged? will there be overflow? overheat? i want to keep an eye on it to see if its damaged. thanks
If you have an issue, you will most likely see leakage at the halfshaft. So, if you aren't dropping fluid. All should be good. Chris "Thermo" Coleman
Ok cool, i've been keeping an eye on it and so far so good. My other worry is that its not visible and meanwhile the TC is slowly getting damaged...
If it ain't leaking and you have it full of lube..you should be okay..

basically transmission fluid gets mixed with your TC fluid and visa versa.. thereare no external leaks.. sometimes. you can take the shaft out and be ok.. sometimes.. they damage.. about a 50/50 shot..

how do the fluids get back and forth? There is a double internal seal around the drive shaft, and an O-ring that is on the outside of the T-case that slides into the tranny. The T-case is sealed off from the tranny.
If the tranny fluid mixed w/ the T-case, then my T-case would not be sitting on my work bench split in half right now!
