Yeah, sounds strange. Car looks pretty well, it was replaced on warrantee, along with exhaust system and intercooler.

Well, funnily enough, the Jag that got an engine change @ 75k was in the UK until I had it imported to Malta.

I posted my mileage earlier this year. I'm now at 230,000 km. I've had the car for about a year and a half and put on 20,000 km. It's an 2002 3.0 litre x type standard that is still fun to drive. The winters here are tough on it. I have had problems with the antifreeze reservoir. The extreme temperature changes that occur when starting in cold weather is hard on the plastic reservoir. The plastic cracks. For repairs, I've done coil packs, replaced a gasket on the gas tank and replaced a ballast for the headlamp. On that note, I have been told that the ballast for the x type is the same as some fords. Anybody know the part number for the headlamp ballast from ford. The one I got from jaguar is a little pricy.

Was that caused by failure of the Ford Oil Pump ???

Dunno, TBH I'm still chasing Jag (UK) to provide me with the reason. They were helpful with the history, but since the replacement was made 5 years ago, they have "problems" tracing the paperwork

So, I have finally managed to squeeze some more info from Jag UK.
This incident refers to 2006, so limited details are available as most of the paperwork would have been archived, but they kindly provided me with the following details:

Customer Report: "AA recovery everything died and clouds of white smoke, noise from engine".

Sounds pretty dramatic

Repair note: "clouds of white smoke noise from engine-investigate and replace engine due to internal failure also replace intercooler and exh system due to oil contamination"

So it looks like either an engine failure or a turbo failure since intercooler was contaminated. Engine replaced on warrantee.

Reminds me of the F1 cars of the early and mid 80's...

I'm just hoping that the current engine lasts longer and lives up to its name.

It's very unusual for an engine failure - There were a batch of duff Ford Engines that were replaced at Fords expense.

My 2005 X-Type 3.0 VDP edition turned 100,000 miles today. I need tires again now, and other than some warrantee items and normal wear items like brakes & rotors the car is wonderful. I am looking at a 2008 that just came into my dealer, and it is fewer miles and 18 inch wheels (5 spoke (r type?)) but with some paint dings etc. My 2005 has better overall interior & exterior condition with 17 inch Belize wheels. Also thinking about a 2008 S-Type but worried about winter snow driving in an S-Type. Seems like many here are keeping the X after the 100,000 mark, and that is encouraging. My dealer also says that of all Jaguars they see more X-Types with over 100K miles than any other model and wish Mr Tata would bring a new X-Type replacement to the USA because the smaller AWD car is still so popular.

04 X-Type 3.0 with 113k miles and stills runs strong. I just bought the car actually. I had a 02 X-Type before this one. I just got to fix a couple of things but nothing too serious. I love my Jags! Lol.

Well, my jagmobile (2002 X-Type, 2.5L).... is now at 275,500 miles (443,375KM)... and still running strong. As interestingly... considering the high maintenance reputation of the jags...I am thrilled that except for regular servicing, my maintenance costs have been minimal.

Engine is stil original.... never worked on except fro regular oil change
Transmission is still original.... never worked on except for regular servcing
Had to change water pump at around 203K Miles... cost $700
Changed all four O2 Sensors at around 260K miles (as car would not pass California smog test because the engine light was constantly on)... cost $700... passed the test (engine light stayed off during test, but came back on later. So changing all the O2 sensors, was probably an un-neccessary cost. The mechanic (whio I trust implicitly)...cannot find any reasons for the engine light to be on... and believes that it is probably some loose electrical connections or other issues... that do not impact the running of the car.

Had to change the 'alternator' at 270K miles... cost $800.

Bottomline... feeling good about the car. I have been checking up web-sites... for folks with large jaguar miles. Though I do see a lot of data on other cars (Toyota, Honda, BMWs having reached 500K to 1Million miles... do not see much about jaguar mileage records. Based on my little research on the web... I believe that I may nearing the top... as far as Jags are concerned.

If anyone has any data... or heard about jags with over 300K miles.... love to hear about it....

Jagmobile, I have never in my life heard of a jag going over 300k miles. I thought that buying my car with over 100k on it was a gamble, but I have now realized that if I keep everything working on my car, it should be able to go many, many miles more!

Happy to hear of higher mileage X-Types than ours. Roughly 130k on our 2003 X-Type 3.0, purchased in 04 with about 13k on it from local Ford dealer. Went to Jag dealer once for warranty work and will never go back... terribly rude.

So I do all my own work. Plugs were NOT a lot of fun, coolant tank is leaking AGAIN (on the second one now..) and brake booster line is cracked w/temp repair, so I have to replace that too. Maybe now the CEL will go out? Also had rt front wheel bearing done, but that may be from teenage drivers.

Anyone had serious AWD or axle or trans issues? Friend who is Ford AWD engineer referred to axle issues in early years.
