Chap near me is advertising a carbon clean on the engine using Hydrogen.

Essentially hook it up to the air intake and run it with a mix of hydrogen for circa 30 mins and the car will be like new as all the carbon deposits have gone.

Anybody tried this? does it work?

I have a 2008 X Type 2L Diesel that has done over 200,000 miles. so think it could benefit if it does work.

Also from time to time the glow plug warning light flashes when i am accelerating hard. Does not go into limp mode but seems to lose some power. Others have suggested my carbon deposits are high.

What are your thoughts?

 

What carbon deposits?
Modern engines in good condition do not build enough carbon to make any difference in performance or fuel consumption. If your engine is in poor condition and has built up deposits, no hokey circus side show machine will fix it.

Save you money and spend it on the real problem that's causing the glow plug light to flash.

 

newbee, like was mentioned, it may work, but you are just putting a band-aid on the real problem. The concept behind why it works is simple. The hydrogen burns at a higher temperature. This causes the cylinder temperatures to be higher. This in turn causes what carbon there may be in the cylinder to be burnt and turned into CO2 and expelled from the engine.

Granted, I ask you this simple question, why do it at all? Your car will already raise the temperatures to a high enough point to match that of the hydrogen. Find yourself a nice long hill that lets you climb say 500 meters in elevation. Start out at the bottom nice and slow and then race up to the top, pushing the engine hard. This will also raise the temperature of the cylinder enough to blow out a lot of the gunk.

If you have a DPF on your car, the engine will automatically dump fuel into the cylinder to cause your DPF to burn the extra fuel and burn out the carbon that it collects. You are doing the same thing by using the engine hard. More fuel, more heat, more heat means hotter cylinder and therefore less carbon.

 

This was done to mine and it ran rougher than ever for over a thousand miles

It had a Terraclean and the emissions (tested by them before and after) were higher after

My preference now is to use the " super " versions of petrol with maybe a quarterly bottle of fuel system cleaner in the tank
