I cannot remove lug nuts. They turn but stay in place.

I cannot remove lug nuts. They turn but stay on studs.

I guess there are 2 possibilities:
1. thread is ruined
2. studs are turning in knuckle.
Any ideas, advises?
Thanks.
Is thread is right on all wheels? Very old Jags had left thread on one side.

car5car, if you have the factory Jag lugnuts, your problem is that there is a tin cap on the lugnut and that has gotten lose and is not engaging with the actual lugnut. I have a fix for you, but I don't want to post it here as this process overrides even locking lugnuts and I tend to want to keep it as low key as possible. So, send me an e-mail and I will tell you what you will need and how to use the tool.

Under that piece of garbage chrome cover is an 11/16" nut, you can either chisel off the cover, (or drive a screwdriver through the center and pry it off), and then use an 11/16 socket to unscrew it; or pound a slightly larger socket over top of the chrome cover and unscrew them that way.
Crappy design and I'd replace all of them with some cheap one piece lug nuts so you don't have the same problem down the road.

I'd pry the caps off first and make absolutely sure that they are not your problem. Haven't seen too many cases where all the lug nuts strip out, it's usually only one when that happens.
If it does turn out that all your wheel studs are stripped and rotating in the hub, the threaded center of the lug nuts make a great guide for a drill bit to drill them out. It may take quite a while but you'll get them out, unfortunately they way that front hub was made you cannot just slip new studs in from behind, you have to take the c/v halfshaft out, then pull the hub and bearing out in order to have enough room to put in new wheel studs so I hope that's not your problem or it's going to take several hours to fix.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
