i can't believe 'oil' isn't in the FAQ's! :-)

Hey all!
I just went through the x-type FAQ's and I am amazed to say that there did not seem to be a single argument about what type and viscosity oil to use and where.....
That's CRAZY! I've NEVER seen an automotive or motorcycle forum without a running argument about this at all times!

So let me start it off by asking the question: What oil should I use?

I need to do my first oil change, (since I've no idea how long it's been since the last one....) and as long as I'm at it, I'm thinking I'll use Bojangles' tips on replacing / flushing the Diff and the T-case as well. (And call me stupid here... does my 2.5 manual trans have to be changed, or does it share a sump with the T-case?)

So which type oils do y'all use, in what viscosity, (I'm in SLC Utah, USA, if ya care about climate on that decision) and... wait for it.... WHAT BRAND do we prefer?

Also: Are we finicky about oil filters? Am I good with the K&N's that I love?

okay... I may have posted too soon.
While I must not have used the FAQ's and the search properly the first time around, I did notice this very cool little button that says "view related threads" after I posted the original.... and BAM! there are the arguments.

However: I did NOT find a "summary" of fluid viscosity / type / qty / location (ie: trans, diff, t-case etc) anywhere.
Does that already exist on the forum somewhere?

you can ask a few loudmouths here.. or read the owners manual (they have a team of engineers that have warranty to think about).

You can also trust thousands of scientific tests and technical results, or you can listen to a bunch of good old boys on brainwashing by oil companies.

You can believe in science and technology...... or send your message via courrier pigeon.

You can use your brain to maximise your drain interval or you can needlessly pollute and waste.

what else.. .. hmmm... oh ya.. better add some dumb *** comment about Seals not working with synthetic.. hahah.. so much BS.

How about this,,, use good oil, check the level frequently. and any name brand filter. change according to the manual.

just that alone will get the engine past several hundred thousand km, after that the body will be rusted to dust.. so you can sell the working enginefor a couple hundred dollars and recover the cost of all the oil changes.....
