For instance, holding down the trip button while starting the car puts the dash in diagnosics mode.
I had no idea about that till two weeks ago and I've owned the car for two years!
I often wonder what other secret functions or not-to-well known factoids people can come up with.

Wait, for info on this? What does the diagnostics mode do?Originally Posted by harryc

Mostly dealer mumbo jumbo that nobody understands, but there is some useful info like battery voltage and dashboard lights testing.Originally Posted by Carwatcher

That must be a British thing. I mean, I know some people have fog where they live.... I grew up with it. But where I live we never ever ever have fog.Originally Posted by Elmoski

It's a European thing in general. Mercedes and Audi have them. I believe VW and BMW remove theirs for the NA market.Originally Posted by Dumb/Luck

The older Alfa Spyders have them, and my even older Porsche 911 had them. It is better to have them and not need them, than to need them and not have them...You don't gotta use them, but it is nice to know that you have them if needed....

Hmm I can't get the diagnostics mode to pop up. I have the MFD with the A/B, Reset, and ML/Km buttons. Which one do I press and what is the exact sequence?Originally Posted by harryc

These are High Intensity rear lights... not only for Fog conditions... but mostly to be used when driving in heavy rain (check out the F1 guys and see theirs)Originally Posted by Dumb/Luck
I'm still trying to figure out why we have "rear foglights".

You press the trip button that's on your turn signal arm. Originally Posted by AML

With the car off hold the button in. Start the car and continue to hold the button in for several seconds after the engine is running.
To cycle through each diagnostic simply press the trip button over and over.
Most of them are gibberish, but some like the dashboard test are pretty neat.
Don't get scared when it tests the gauges

I ALWAYS use these when it rains where I live... Mostly because the people around here have no clue how to drive in the wet, so I like to give them an extra heads up that I am in front of them. Not that it matters, since most of the drivers in Vegas are either drunk or texting while driving anyways.Originally Posted by LCGI

If they're wired like the UK ones you can't have them on without dipped headlights.Originally Posted by Elmoski

My '92 XJ40 3.2 has central locking. I usually have it parked at my office with all the windows down just a touch. If I unlock the passenger door (to access the glovebox for example) and lock it again the windows will all close. If I unlock and lock the drivers door the window stay down where they were.
Go figure.

Same here. Would be way cooler if it worked with the remote because only poor people lock/unlock their doors by actually sticking the key in it.Originally Posted by Mayday30

I have an '04 X that does it. Just some jags are programmed with it, and others aren't. Read some of the earlier things, The keyfob was not programmed for the NA cars due to lawsuits. But you can still get it programmed at a jag dealership if you REALLY want to.Originally Posted by ufoz8mycow

Is it the keyfob itself or the car that hast to be programed?Originally Posted by QuintonChester
