Talking I guess everyone's A/C is acting up

Hello everyone, long time no post! I noticed my A/C hasnt been spewing out the cold air like she used to. It's been over 110 degrees the last few days here in Phoenix, and the failure couldn't come at a worse time of year. Guess that's what a brit car is all about

My compressor is grinding fairly loudly at idle when the ac is on, and increases in volume as RPM's rise. The grind disappears completely once I turn off the a/c. I'm a noob, but I assume my compressor is toast. Is there a rebuilt kit for it? Is the pulley bearing or clutch known to go out over time (mine is a 2003 with 116k miles) or will I have to just replace the entire compressor? I don't have tools to evacuate the r134 at my house so either way I'll have to take her to a shop. Just wondering if there are options to replacing the whole compressor. Thanks for reading!

I used to live in Phoenix. Never again. 110? Don't tell me it's a dry heat. 110 is 110, dry heat or not.

Murphys Law, ebay is a great source for a new or remanufactured compressor.

somekidz are you mechanically inclined? You may be able to do this repair for a fraction of the cost of a repair shop.

Smile AC

This season my AC is working OK as long as I keep it on recirculate. It takes a bit longer than I am use to, to cool down, but it is not warming up at stop lights and when going very slow like it did last summer. This was happening before I had the battery replaced, and lot of gremlins have disappeared. Perhaps the AC was in the gremlin mix.
