I got a 2002 x-type, found a 2005 x that might be priced right.
questions

the 05 has VDP on the trunk, I assume it means vanderplas but just in case it mean very durable plastic I wanted to check and be sure. I have never seen an x with the vdp package.

Also it does not have the engine shroud cover like my 02, was it discontinued or is it missing?

Any know issues an 05 would have that an 02 would not, that I should be aware of or look for?

Has 160k miles on it but in very nice shape.

 

The VDP model was marketed as a top-line X-type briefly, and the letters are supposed to suggest "Van den (not der) Plas" in a light form, the only significant upgrades being contrasting piping to the seats, walnut instead of sapele wood, and chromed mirror covers. The engine shroud was dropped around 2004. The later X-types have no particular problems but the AWD transfer case no longer has a viscous coupling. No matter. You do want to make sure that the air duct for the transfer case is in place. With 160,000 miles on it all fluids should be changed including transmission and transfer case. That's it.

Hi, the mileage is not a deal breaker, but get the BEST service history you can find, oil changes above all ! if none, walk away !
