Does anyone know if you can replace the input shaft bearing or main bearing on a 5spd manual transmission or if you have to replace the entire trans.? Symptom is a bearing noise or rattle at idle but when clutch pedal is depressed the noise is diminished or goes away. I understand this to be a ISB and not the clutch throw out bearing.

I have indeed the same problem. The last time I asked my mechanic he told me that is better to wait till the clutch fails and then maybe to total the car.
