Jacking up the rear end

Jacking up the rear end
I need to jack up the rear of the car to try and find the knocking I have on the back end.
A visual check did not reveal anything obvious, so I need to lift up the whole back end.
As my car is a fwd version, the rear subframe centre section looks very substantial, would it be ok to jack up the middle section of it ?
It would be far easier for me to do it this way.
Thanks,
Paul.

I've used that point to jack up the whole of the rear before and it suffered no damage. As you say it is pretty substantial. What I would say is before you get under the car lower it back onto axle stands with rubber support cushions to fit inside the elongated holes found just inboard of the rear sill jacking point.

Astromorg,
That is the very first thing I looked at !
Happy Harry,
I have since jacked it up on the subframe in the centre, have then checked for play on both sides, but nothing obvious.
I can twist the top control arm by hand, so I suspect them.
As the knocking happens easier when going over a bump whilst slightly turning right, I strongly suspect the top arm, as this would cause the wheel to be pushed out on top to the opposite camber, so causing the bush to knock.
