I have a breaking issue with my Jaguar x type spot diesel, and am desperate for some help in working out what is wrong with it.
Recently whilst driving the breaks started to judder at low speed, soon as I go over around 20mph the and lights come on and then the murdering seems to stop but the abs light remains on.
now, I've not bad the car long and upon inspection the mechanic advised me that the breaks and discs are in fact new, he suspected a the from drivers side abs sensor and bearing. Unfortunately after two attempts of replacing sensor and bearing it's not fixed the issue.
I'm Stumped but worryingly so is he
I'm wondering if anyone would be kind enough to tell me what could be the reason for this problem.
Jagxt, first off, welcome to the Forums. Please stop by the New Member section and tell us a little bit about yourself, what vehicle you have and why you got into Jaguars. This will help you figure out who around her keeps things moving.
Now, with your car, on the center console, is there a button that looks like a car skidding out of control? Some may know it as the DSC button. Not all X-Types came with this function. That is why I am asking if you have it. Stating the year of your car would help us out a lot. If it is a 2004, including the build month and year is also handy as there are 2 different setups for the 2004 MY. The other bit of information that would be helpful is whether there are any codes in the computer. This may help narrow down where the problem is stemming from.
In trying to narrow things down, when the car starts acting up, does the speedo drop to zero, or does it appear to still read correctly? If you get 2 wheels reading erroneous speeds, the car will get confused and it will fight to make the wheels spin at the same speed which can lead to a bucking/judder type of feel to the car. I am battling a similar issue with a fellow member and for some reason, his front two wheels are seeing half the speed signal of the rears. If you have the DSC button, try turning it off and seeing if the problem goes away. This trick works for the fellow member to atleast let him drive the car.

also I forgot to mention, no the speed reading does not drop and appears to read normal. The juddering only happens when breaking.
I'm hoping I can get it sorted easily enough... I've already paid for the the first failed attempt :-(
Jagxt, from that code list, it is sounding like you have a wrong wheel bearing in the right front wheel. So, what the car is seeing is 3 wheels spinning at one speed and one at a completely different speed. This is causing the ABS system to try and bring that one wheel up to speed, resulting in the shuttering that you are feeling. It can be something as simple as the bearing being put in backwards into the hub or the bearing have the wrong number of teeth on its gear wheel.
jagxt, one last thing, does the tire in question have a much different wear than the other 3 tires (ie, either was just replaced while the other 3 are pretty well worn or the other 3 are fairly new and this one has a lot of wear)? That can possibly cause what you are seeing too. I would also make sure that all 4 tires are the same size. I can't imagine a tire shop installing a different size tire on an AWD car, but I don't put anything past a shop these days.
