Default Jaguar X-Type P1638, P1699

I recently installed a double din stereo in my 2004 Jaguar X-Type. Afterward the check engine light came on, and the codes are P1638, and P1699. What do they mean?

These are the faults codes:-

P1638 EMS OBD II CAN ECM / INST network malfunction

Reason

CAN open circuit fault – INST to ECM
CAN short circuit fault
INST failure
ECM failure

P1699 EMS OBD II CAN ECM / A/CCM network malfunction

Reason

CAN open circuit fault – A/CCM to ECM
CAN short circuit fault
A/CCM failure
ECM failure

The CAN system links several parts (modules) to the ECM, including the instrument cluster, ABS module etc. I maybe that you have dislodged something when fitting the double din unit, may I suggest you pull it back out carefully and check connections there. There are some modules in that area that may cause the issue. The code shows that it is pin 123 and 124 from the ECM plug that is affected.

Check out behind the unit and get back to let us know how you get on.
